Getting Ready to Go!!

Oh, it's been a whirlwind of a few days. Vacation is finally almost here - we leave on Thursday! Here's where we're going: Rome, Venice, Cinque Terre, Zermatt, Basel, and end in Munich. We'll be with friends most of the trip, and I think it will be a wonderful time! But I have to ask, are there any "must see" places in any of those cities?

I've been so busy with work lately. The absolute worst thing about vacation is before and after - getting everything done prior to leaving, and catching up when returning. When you have to work late every night the week before leaving, and work on both days in the weekend prior to leaving, is it really a vacation???

It's been nice to be so busy though. I have had very little thoughts about the TTC heartache. I'm excited to come back from Europe, and start the new TTC plan at the end of September. Finally, it will be here again. For the first time, I'm not nervous at all about the IUI process. The shots? No big deal. I remember the last IUI giving myself shots, I would have to have the hubs with me, and I'd get all nervous about giving them to myself. It will be interesting to see how I feel when I actually do the shots, but I can't see myself feeling the same way again. Nothing in the IUI process compares to the pain of the miscarriage. I'm not nervous about the shots this time, I'm nervous about a positive pregnancy test. Because then the fear begins.

Have to run, I told myself that if I got up early this morning and worked real hard, I could go get a pedicure. So I'm off for some pampering!!!

  1. when you come back just take it one day at a time, understandably you will be worried about a positive pregnancy test and the days that follow...but until then enjoy your holiday and "try" not to think too far ahead...Although I know that is easier said then done.

I can't wait to see pictures of your trip!!!

  5. Have an absolutely awesome vacation!!! I haven't been to any of those places, so no tips. But, they all sound awesome. And, seriously, getting ready for a vacation is exhausting!

I hope that TTC stays far from your mind and you have an incredible time!!

  6. Your vacation sounds amazing and should be just what you need to take your mind off of the trying to conceive roller coaster. Yes, I was thankful for your blog when i recieved my diagnosis as i was already familiar with the old mtfhr. My doctor didn't mention baby aspirin - i think he thinks the increased vitamin B should keep me from clotting. I am going to try to go with it and not second guess, hopefully, I won't be back here in three months with another loss wishing i had done it. Enjoy your trip!!!

  7. Have a fabulous vacation!! If I could recommend one place in Rome it would be Piazza Navona, and specifically the restaurant Tre Scalini. Bellissimo!

  8. I can't remember anything particular that I've done in any of those places (the ones I've been to)..., so I'm no help with the travel tips! I guess I need to have better travel memories!

I never got to test out my theory about whether the losses get easier or not after #2. I suspect that they do, because #1 is like, oh, ok, well 'at least I can get pregnant and this probably won't happen again." And then #2 is like, "yay, I'm pregnant for reals this time! lightning doesn't strike twice!" followed by: "oh no! I'm horribly broken and will never have children!" During the first trimester of pg #3 I was just WAITING to miscarry the whole time. So it would have been less of a shock. Anyways, I very much hope and believe that you won't get to test my theory either... I think #3 will be the one for you. Can't wait! But I very very much understand your fears.

  12. It never seems to fail that we are the busiest at work just before a vacation. There is never anything to do until those days just before you head out for a week or so.

It is good that you have not only had so much going on here to take your mind of TTC, but that you will be on vacation and not thinking about it there either. I hope you have a wonderful time in Europe and just enjoy each and every minute.

    Enjoy your pedi!

  14. What a pity you are not coming to Ireland! Hopefully next time! If you are a cat lover (as well as a dog one!) in Rome do stop by Largo di Torre Argentina; there are loads of cats on the left overs of many monuments!
    Love, Fran

  15. Oh your trip sounds amazing!! I am a bad Italian as I have never visited my capital city so cannot advise you on where to go there. Venice is so romantic and so beautiful, just strolling around the city makes you feel like you are in a movie! I would try going on a gondola just because it's so typically Venice! I have been to Zermatt on a skiing trip during the winter as a child and I remember it was so beautiful. Of course in the summer it's probably even prettier! Have fun and I cannot wait to hear and see all the pictures from you adventure!!!

  19. What a wonderful trip you have planned! I went to Venice for the first time the summer I turned 14 and loved it, so when we went back this past New Year's, I was sure it would have lost some of its luster. Not one bit. That city is heartbreakingly gorgeous. My recommendation is to download the free Rick Steves audio guide to the Grand Canal (you can find it on iTunes as a podcast) and listen to it as you take the vaporetto (water taxi) down to St. Mark's Square around sunset. It's timed to tell you about each stop as you arrive there, and it's all so much cheaper than a gondola. In fact, as we're kind of audio guide junkies, we'd recommend all the Rick Steves stuff. Have a *wonderful* time.

  20. Ive been to Basel and Munich, I think that with Munich you definitely want to go to the Hofbrauhaus and have a beer, very yummy. Also, Basel was just really pretty to walk around and look at.
