Welcome, ICLW!

Welcome to my wonderful amazing group of readers that provide me with such amazing support, and welcome to any newcomers stopping by my blog!

The short TTC story: Been trying for 1 1/2 years, went to an RE in November, infertility was unexplained, did an IUI with injections in January, got pregnant, it was ectopic, did another IUI with injections in April, got pregnant, everything looked great, there were no warning signs until the ultrasound in June when there was no heartbeat, even though we had seen one a week earlier. Recently did a bunch of testing, found out I'm compound heterozygous for MTHFR mutations, started Folgard 2.2 twice per day and a baby aspirin, we have an appointment on Monday (finally!) to go over everything with the RE, we're leaving for vacation in Europe on 9/2, come back 9/19, and will likely start another IUI with injections when we return. I haven't done ICLW in a few months, but I'm excited to get back out there and meet some people.

In other news, it is going to be a really sad day today. We've had a foster puppy for awhile - almost two months. With the trip coming up, and it taking longer to get her adopted than we thought, we've decided that it's time for her to go to a new foster home. I feel so incredibly guilty about this, and it's going to be so hard to say goodbye to her today. I know it's the right thing to do for our home, for our dogs, for my husband, but I feel so bad. Goodbye, little Ashley, I've really enjoyed having you at our home. I hope you find a very good permanent home very soon!!!

  1. Happy ICLW, Alex! It sounds like you have an exciting month ahead. I'm sending my best wishes for your appointment on Monday and your upcoming cycle.

I know today will be sad, but you're right, you have to do what is best for your home, and the pup. Fostering a dog is an incredibly generous act and you should feel good about what you did!

  4. Happy ICLW :) I'm excited to be doing it to this month! I always love the little recaps people post. It's nice to read a summary, even for a regular reader.

I'm sorry about letting the puppy go. You did a wonderful thing for her and now you get to share her with the new foster family. They will take good care of her for you!

  5. Hi Alex
Thanks so much for your kind words on my blog. I hope I was not coming on strongly before, my experiences have opened my eyes to an entire world of issues that I never knew existed. I do not mean to frighten anyone though so keep in mind my issues were 1 in 10,000. I likely took the bullet for our little group as long as we keep our numbers under that 10,000 mark :)
So sad that the puppy has to go away, it is such a wonderful you are doing by fostering.
thanks for all of your support!!!

  6. Glad you are participating in ICLW this month! I am so jealous of your trip - it will be fabulous! And I nice way to relax before your next IUI. Ooh, it breaks my heart that you have to say bye to your pup - as long as she goes to a good home though, I guess that's all you can ask for.

  7. I still can't believe you are having trouble placing that beautiful dog!!! I wish I could take her... I'm sorry you have to say goodbye :(

But I agree, you can't just add another dog right now! Like you don't have enough going on!

  8. First, I'm sorry for your losses. So unfair. :(

I hope the foster puppy finds her Forever Home soon. That had to be a tough decision. Good luck at the RE appointment, and have a BLAST in Europe!

  13. Visiting from ICLW...sometimes I like to leave a comment with encouragement for you & other great IF bloggers. The good news is that you have been able to get pregnant. The bad news is that you have had an ectopic, which may mean that you now have scarring in your tubes leading to possibly another ectopic in the future. Regarding your recent unfortunate miscarriage, these do happen. There is an overall risk of miscarriage in 40% of pregnancies. Since you have a +MTHFR, it puts you at increased risk immunologically. For that reason, low dose aspirin, Medrol, and possibly Heparin or Lovenox, might make a difference and would be a good idea. If you fail again, your RE may begin to bring up your age-factor & suggest IVF. Ironically (my being an RE), my wife was in a similar situation as yourself & after numerous IUI's we went the IVF route when she was 38 yo...and succeeded. Never give up! Good luck...

  14. Happy ICLW Alex! I have been following you for a while now and I am so glad that you have a diagnosis and a plan of attack. I think you are absolutely going to LOVE being in Europe. Don't forget to take pictures of EVERYTHING... because you'll want to remember it all. My husband and I ended up fighting on our trip, but it was still fun because we would be arguing about something, then look up at a 5th century castle and just laugh because of where we were... don't forget your power converters!

  15. Hi, thank you for stopping by my blog (www.infertilitydoula.com). I guess to the outside world, our world of IF seem strange... Doesn't it?

As overwhelming as the diagnosis must have been for you, I guess there's some relief to finally know what's been preventing carrying a pregnancy to term. I hope Monday's meeting is enlightening. I'll be checking in ;)

Happy ICLW to you my friend! Glad we've gotten to know each other, and hope we can see each other through some happy times sooner rather than later.

  18. First, I'm so sorry for your loss.

It's wonderful that you gave Ashley a home for awhile, that's such a cool thing to do. Hope your upcoming vacation is amazing!

  19. I'm so excited for your vacation! Is that weird? LOL! DH and I loved Europe so I'm going to live vicariously through you.

I would have such a hard time fostering pets. I already know I'd get way too attached.

  20. Have a fabulous trip! I hope parting with the foster pup wasn't too hard. I can't imagine how hard that must be!

  22. My sister and I have MTHFR too. I can't remember what type we are, but we have two gene mutations. My sister is pregnant right now and has to give herself lovinox shots daily to keep blood clots at bay. She had to do that with her last pregnancy too. None of the doctors who know about my mutations think it is a big deal though, so I guess I got lucky there.

Sorry I've been a lax blogger lately. I've thought a lot about you while I'm away though, and I keep thinking I need to come check your blog more than anyone else's.

I hope you're doing well. Sorry to hear you have to move your foster pup. Hopefully she finds a good home while you are away. :)
