Better Today

I thought about this blog for a long time before I actually took the plunge and did it. And when I did, it was to have a diary, and write out my feelings, and finally respond to all of the amazing women whom I have followed, and admired. I loved knowing that there are other women going through the same things I did. But it never occurred to me that I would actually feel so supported by my new bloggy friends – the comments really do help, don’t they? I was so sad yesterday, and I put my feelings out there on the world wide web, and felt better for writing them down, but then – people commented, and I realized that these people are real live people that have gone through the same things I have, and this is what I was looking for – a true support system, so thank you!

I had a long talk with my acupuncturist last night. I told him we were thinking of doing another IUI and fertility drugs; he asked why, as in, why wouldn’t I want to get pregnant naturally? I explained that I’m not getting any younger, and it’s the only thing that has actually made me pregnant in the year that we’ve been trying. He said I can do whatever I want, and he will both support and help me if I do fertility treatments or not, so that’s good. But I explained that we’re going to do one cycle naturally before the IUI, and I think he views it as a challenge. He made me promise to take his herbs, which I haven’t really been doing, and to start exercising more. He said exercising was mandatory to getting pregnant. So I’m going to give myself to him this month, and do whatever he tells me to do, only because I would truly LOVE to get pregnant naturally (who wouldn’t???) and I can’t get into the RE until too late into next cycle. But first – my period needs to start, which I think will happen soon as my temp dropped today. But my crazy little acupuncturist Dr. Kim has given me hope again.

  1. Although I'm not seeing an acupuncturist now since I moved, the one I was going to said that I didn't have adequate blood flow to my uterus and she gave me some herbs to take. It didn't work for me, maybe because I was afraid to take them consistently when I was already taking Clomid, but maybe some like that would help. It was called Dong Quai.

  2. I did acupuncture and herbs while TTC. I know it doesn't always work for everyone, but I had success. I started acupuncture and herbs in October 2007. I also started going to the gym and lost 25lbs (about 1/10th of my weight). I got pregnant in February 2008. My little girl is now 16 months.

  3. Hi Alex - our blogs were both listed on LFCA today as new blogs so I wandered on over. Our histories actually sound pretty similar. Before I even got to do an IVF or IUI cycle we got a positive beta that didn't rise appropriately. Ended in a D&C. We're TTC'ing on our own this month, but I've not gone back to acupuncture. I actually liked the acupuncture during my IVF cycle and probably should be doing it this month, but somehow just wanted a rest from it all. Anyhow, best of luck to you this month!

  4. Welcome to blogging :) I agree, the support is awesome. It has made me smile many times when I was feeling like crap.

Wishing you lots of luck with your upcoming natural cycle! It would be wonderful if that was the one that worked and you didn't have to go on to another IUI.

  5. I tried accupuncture during the time period I was bleeding and cramping for two years straight. It helped with the pain. I didn't expect it to do anything, but it did. I think it's a good idea to give his way a try for a month, especially since you can't get into the RE in time for this next cycle anyway.

In response to your comment about the cloth diapers, I will definitely be writing about my adventures in cloth diapering when the time comes. I am grossed out by it too, but it's something Adam and I have talked about a lot and decided it's something we want to do. You don't have to swish the dirty diapers around in the toilet anymore b'c they make a sprayer that hooks up to the back of your toilet. So, you can spray them clean while holding them over the toilet. Much better in my opinion- great invention and something I will definitely be buying! :)

  7. I just found your blog and am excited to see you are doing acupuncture! My husband and I haven't done any official treatments yet besides clomid, but I'm leaning towards going to the acupuncture route before the RE route. Way cheaper for us since we have no IF insurance coverage. And so much less invasive. So I'll be following you and seeing how it goes for you!

  8. Welcome from LFCA; I tried acupuncture during our TTC journey as well, unfortunately we later found out that due to severe MFI IVF was our only option, hope that you're able to conceive naturally!!! Also glad to have you in the IF blogosphere:)
