Condoms & RE

Didn't think those two would ever be related - condoms & RE appointment! I had my WTF appointment with the RE today. I was planning on trying naturally with acupuncture this cycle, and if it didn't work, then do IUI & injections next cycle. I was really hoping the natural cycle would work...

I should have known better. I had 2 methotrexate shots on 2/10 to get rid of the ectopic pregnancy. At that time Dr. G told me I needed to wait 1 month - I read otherwise on the Internet, but chose to believe the doctor. Well today he said we should wait another cycle and should prevent pregnancy for 60 days after the shot. Would have been nice to know last month! Hence, I just told Hubs to pick up condoms!!!

So another month gone. He said my chances for another ectopic is high but not high enough to not do another IUI. But if I have another ectopic, I should do IVF. So now we're waiting for another AF to show and then IUI and injections again. I hate this rollercoaster - how do I get off????

  1. Ugh! What a bummer. Are you going to do a natural cycle after the 60 days are up or jump right into the next IUI?

  2. sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. :(

as far as the trip is concerned, I hear you about how difficult it is to not think months in advance and every "what if" scenario. That is a tricky thing. And something i am still working on. I think you have a good idea to book things that are cancelable or get travel insurance.

  3. I'm also sorry to hear about the ectopic. It took me much longer than usual after the MTX shots to get preggers again. Keep your chin up and invest in some fun condoms at least. We managed to get the new Durex ones with funky "flavors." Nothing makes me crack up more than asking the hubby if he's in the mood for the tropical banana.

  4. I'm counting on accupuncture to do something for me now! I just started, and I'm really excited about it!

I hate when doctors change up your whole plan though!

  7. That sucks! Yeah, it definitely would have been nice to know that it would 60 days and not 30. But I also have high hopes for the acupuncture. Maybe the extra time will give it more time to get your body back in shape so that you're in a better place, even if you do the IVF.

  8. As Mrs. Misfit said, it is taking me a long time after ectopic too. It is worth going to her (Misfit's) blog to look at the timing of her pregnancies to get an idea of what you might expect. I had 1 mtx shot last fall, waited 3 months to try again (in Dec.), but had wacky ovulation patterns until this month (March). Misfit sent me a link to an article showing that, on average, MTX damages eggs that are within 6 months of being released. Some people get pregnant before the 6 months are up, though (just not me or Misfit), so it isn't entirely hopeless.
It totally sucks though, to know that even when we do get pregnant again we have that risk of another ectopic hanging over our heads.

I'm with you, though! Hope I can lend some support through this...

  9. Sorry to hear about your ectopic. I agree condoms and RE is definitely not something that you see/hear in the same sentence very often. Hoping that you're able to start trying again soon without any risks.

  10. Alex - sorry to hear that you've been given a delay on getting started again. I had a near miss with methotrexate last fall (we did a D&C on a hunch it might not actually be ectopic) and we were told we'd have to take 3 months for it to clear. I agree this is a (not fun!) rollercoaster and at times I just want to jump off -- but I keep going for that next ride. Hang on tight!

  11. I'm so sorry about the ectopic...and the condoms. How frustrating. Will you at least be doing acupuncture in the meantime? It couldn't hurt, right?

    Lots of luck to you.
